Match Three

Match Three - South Africa 31 - 19 New Zealand

South Africa crushed the All Blacks in one of the most ruthlessly efficient displays ever seen on a rugby field. From the very start to the final whistle, the All Blacks were exposed to high intensity pressure the like of which they have never experienced before and the only thing they should be grateful for is that the score was not more emphatic.

Morne Steyn proved to be an inspired selection at outside half as he produced one of the great performances in a Tri Nations match, scoring all South Africa’s 31 points, with only one missed kick at the very end of the game. In so doing he broke the record for the most points scored in a single Tri Nations match.

There will be serious questions asked now of the All Blacks coaching staff and once again Graham Henry will find himself in an unwanted limelight with calls already becoming louder for his dismissal. His team were outplayed, out-thought, out manoeuvred and were poorly led on the pitch and they will need to get their act together during this rest period that they will embark on. About the only aspect they got right in this match was the Haka but even that was not enough to inspire them .
