Match Six

Match 6 - Aus 25 - 32 SA

The Sprinboks began this match in a superbly controlled but rampaging style that seemed to shcok the Wallabies right from the outset. Two quick tries followed and from that moment Australia were always chasing the game. They did manage two penalties, but by that time the Boks had scored a third try and went in at half time 22-6 to the good.

Australia came out for the second half in determined fashion and began slowly to get into the game. Matt Giteau went over for a try and a comeback looked on the cards. However, the Boks stepped up to the plate once more and Habana went over for his second try of the match. This was converted by Steyn which restored the 16 point advantage from half time but which also gave the Boks a 4 try bonus point.

The game looked as good as over, but the Wallabies began a second fight back this time scoring two late tries, but sadly for them it was not quite enough. It was Australia's sixth successive Tri Nations defeat and they will be up against the Boks again next week in Brisbane to try to stop the rot.

South Africa 32 – Tries: Habana (2), Fourie, Du Preez. Cons: Steyn (3), Pens: Steyn (2) - Australia 25 - Tries: Giteau (2), Turner, Cons: Giteau (2), Pens: Giteau (2)
